OUTDOOR ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER
Hi! I've been a wedding + outdoor elopement photographer for over 11 years. I was born + raised in Indiana, and now live in Southwest Michigan. Serving people through photography is my passion. I'm a solid mixture of focused/serious + fun-loving/warm. I'm an Enneagram type 1w2 in regard to personality. I was a college cross country + track athlete. My last collegiate race was the marathon, where I placed 17th in the nation.
I'm obsessed with mid-century modern furniture, dark chocolate + peanut butter, and cabins. My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption; I tear up every time. My heart yearns for travel + planning travel. I've visited 45 of the 50 states so far, including Alaska + Hawaii. I enjoy spending quality time with my family, out in nature, and in my cozy Michigan home.
Jim and I met in in a pre-calculus class that neither one of us needed to be in. We instantly bonded over rocks, trees, and photography.
MEET MY OTHER HALF, JIM
This is my husband, adventure partner, and best friend. He's a marketing manager for Polaris boats, mountain bike lover, persistent tinkerer, and dry-joke-maker. He always has a do-it-yourself project going and loves learning new things. We got married under a 150-year-old Catalpa tree back in 2015.
We believe marriage is the ultimate adventure! We're Christ-followers, in awe of God's magnificent creation. We're goofy, kind, and passionate people. When we're not working, we enjoy spending time with our families, getting outside, and traveling to a new area of the country.

YOUR PHOTO EXPERIENCE
INTENTIONAL | NATURAL | DETAILED
We truly hope to get to know you on a personal level and serve you with our time + talents. Relationship-focused photography is our goal for all. A genuinely enjoyable photo experience is also something we want for every couple. Feeling comfortable to be yourselves with us is important. Even if you think you’re weird or awkward. We are too!
We avoid heavily-posed images and will intermittently guide you. We won’t leave you hanging there not knowing what to do. Movement in images is key with us; none of that “hold still and smile” stuff. Well, maybe a few of those. We’re best suited for fun-loving, energetic, and adventurous folks who like to be in nature.
“She made everything as easy and seamless as possible. She is so much more than a photographer, she was a wedding planner at times, a researcher, advocate for our vision and desires…” – S+J
We’ll partner with you during the planning process to give you support along the way. An efficient timeline of your wedding day, with natural lighting and a photography point-of-view in mind is important to get the best images. When you’re hiring a photographer, it’s like giving them a backstage pass to your day. Trusting us with that, and being vulnerable is crucial to our relationship.
Emily edits every image you will receive. No outsourcing for someone else to do, ever. Emily does not use associate shooters. When you hire Emily Hary Photography, you get Emily Hary. Simple as that. She takes on a couple handfuls of elopements per year, in order to give you her best service.
“She created a safe place where we could be ourselves and completely live in the moment, allowing all the experiences and feels to sink in.” – T+C
She’s thinking about longevity + timelessness when working on your images; natural colors, flattering skin tones, logical cropping, removing distractions, etc. When you hire her, you know you’ll be getting her best work with details in mind. Emily pours herself into your images and doesn’t take this work lightly, so she can make the photos the best they can be.
Doing a destination wedding? We’re always down to travel! We love discovering new places + adventures. We work hard with you to create meaningful + emotional photos that will make you smile, laugh, and tear-up years from now. Our wedding was the best day of our lives (so far), and we cherish our photos. We want the same for you.
