FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where are you based? Do you travel?
We are based in Elkhart, Indiana. Heck yea we travel! Photography has taken us all over, and we’re pumped to see new places with you.
We aren’t sure on a specific location yet. Can you help?
For sure! Emily prides herself on being a resource to couples in many forms. She’ll team up with you to find the perfect location. It’s part of her role as your guide. She has a huge list of spots she’s saved over the years + good knowledge on what to look for in a location (even if it’s on the other side of the world). A big part of a smooth elopement/wedding day is preparation + organization.
Talk to me about your editing style.
Emily values details and wants each photo to be its best. That’s why Emily edits each image you receive. We don’t outsource editing to anyone, ever. We may not have the fastest turnaround, but we take pride in our distinct style + high-level of consistency. While editing your images, Emily highly values: accurate coloring, symmetry, well-lit/sharp faces, cool tones (preserving blues/greens), true whites, flattering skin, minimal distractions, and logical cropping.
How long have you been doing photography?
Emily shot her very first wedding in July 2011.
Is your business insured + how do you protect your photos?
We have business insurance through State Farm, which includes a 1 million liability policy + insurance on all our gear. We shoot on two memory cards simultaneously. After your wedding, all RAW images are backed-up in at least three separate physical locations (one being a fireproof/waterproof safe). We know these memories mean the world to you, and we do all that we can to protect them.
How do we book you?
Head to the contact page to fill out the form to check availability and get the ball rolling. For weddings, we require a non-refundable retainer payment (starting at 2k) upon signing the contract.
Who will photograph the wedding?
Emily will join you for your elopement or intimate wedding. For bigger weddings you will get both Jim + Emily Hary as your photographers.
How will we receive our photos?
You will receive all of your images in their finished state. We give you a mixture of color + black and white photos. All the high-resolution digital JPEG files will be delivered to you through a private shareable online gallery. There is no limit to the number of photographs you will receive from your wedding day (it will probably be more than you’re thinking). Emily will hand-pick all the best images, by getting rid of any duplicates, misfires, or images with poor lighting.
Can we share our photos on social media?
Chyeah! We require that you provide visible credit for each post made online. This small business thrives on people being able to see + know it’s our work! We also kindly ask that you do not crop, edit, or alter the images in any way.
Do you provide printing rights?
Absolutely. This allows you to print as many photos as you want, as many times as you’d like, without restriction. We still own the copyright to the images, but you will get personal printing rights. Please avoid drug/grocery stores for printing. The (sometimes) weird colors + low quality do not accurately reflect our hard work! In addition to the gallery service you’ll receive your images in, we personally recommend MPIX. They have reasonable prices, beautiful print quality, and quick delivery.
Do you take formal family portraits at weddings?
Yes. We collect all the information we need from you before the wedding day. Efficiency is important to us. We recommend no more than ten family groupings. Family portraits are often the most exhausting part of the day for everyone. We want you and your family to enjoy the day. Couples are interested in seeing more natural photos rather than posed. That is why there are not many on our site. No worries though, we do them at every wedding.
What kind of gear do you shoot with?
Two Canon R6 bodies + two Canon 5d Mark III bodies for back-up. All Canon L series lenses: 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 24mm 1.4, and 24-70mm 2.8.
Are you two married?
Yep! And it’s the best thing ever. We tied the knot under a huge Catalpa tree back in May 2015.
